KUCHING – In his Sarawak Day 2025 message, Chief Minister Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has called on all Sarawakians to uphold unity and work hand-in-hand with the government and private sector in building a more prosperous and dynamic future for the state.

Delivering his address under the theme ‘Sarawak Gemilang, United to Build the Future’, the Chief Minister reflected on July 22, 1963, as a pivotal moment in Sarawak’s history. It was on this day that the British colonial administration officially handed over administrative power to a local self-government led by the state’s first Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan.

“This event was the starting point for the formation of Sarawak’s identity as a sovereign state within the Federation of Malaysia,” he said. He also acknowledged the efforts of other early leaders such as Dato Sri Tawi Sli for their role in laying the foundation for Sarawak’s self-governance.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi paid tribute to former Chief Ministers — the late Tun Datuk Patinggi Abdul Rahman Ya’kub, the late Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, and the late Pehin Sri Tan Sri Adenan Satem — for their lasting contributions to Sarawak’s development.

He further praised the visionary leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg for propelling the state forward under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. The strategy prioritises digital economic transformation, green hydrogen, bioeconomy, and innovation through education and strategic investment.

“Sarawak’s economy has proven its resilience in the post-pandemic era. We are now poised to make significant strides on the global stage in digital and green energy,” he added.

Highlighting the importance of collaborative progress, he said the government sets policies and infrastructure, the private sector drives investment, and the people uphold the state’s aspirations.

Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi concluded his message with a call to preserve unity and harmony as essential pillars of Sarawak’s stability and growth.

“May this Sarawak Day 2025 ignite our love for the state and strengthen our resolve to move forward with confidence and unity,” he said.
