KUALA LUMPUR — Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was among the key Malaysian delegates at the 26th Meeting on the Implementation of the Exchange of Letters (EOL-26) between Malaysia and Brunei, held yesterday in Kuala Lumpur.
The high-level meeting was co-chaired by Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and Brunei’s Minister of Foreign Affairs II, Datuk Seri Setia Erywan Mohd Yusof.
According to an official statement, EOL-26 served as a vital platform to address ongoing bilateral matters concerning agreements and understandings previously signed between the two nations. Discussions focused particularly on strengthening economic collaboration and cross-border development, with the aim of delivering mutual benefits to citizens in shared border regions such as Sarawak and Brunei.
During the meeting, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah underscored the importance of close bilateral ties, especially in terms of investment and development in the Miri-Limbang-Lawas corridor. He also highlighted the economic potential of promoting tourism in northern Sarawak.
The EOL-26 meeting forms part of the groundwork for the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Malaysia and Brunei, slated for next month and hosted by Malaysia. This consultation will see senior leaders from both countries convene to further reinforce strategic regional cooperation.
Sarawak’s active involvement in the meeting reflects the state’s commitment to deepening regional ties and pursuing shared development goals, in alignment with Malaysia’s economic diplomacy initiatives.
The strong historical bond between Malaysia and Brunei is expected to be further enhanced through platforms like the EOL and ongoing consultations, paving the way for continued prosperity and regional stability.
