Four Kampung Haji Baki Families Receive New Homes Under BEKR Aid

KUCHING — Four families who lost their homes to a fire in Kampung Haji Baki can now move forward with renewed hope after receiving newly built houses under the House Fire Assistance Project (BEKR). The handover ceremony was officiated today by Batu Kitang assemblyman, Dato Ir. Lo Khere Chiang.

This compassionate initiative, coordinated by the Kuching District Office in collaboration with various government agencies, aims to support fire victims in rebuilding their lives. The houses, which come equipped with essential facilities, were handed over to ensure recipients can live comfortably and safely.

In his address, Dato Ir. Lo highlighted the Sarawak Government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its people, particularly those affected by natural or unforeseen disasters.

“We do not want anyone to be left behind when faced with tragedy. This support is not just physical—it represents a deeper message of community care and unity,” he said, expressing gratitude to all agencies and individuals involved in realising the project.

The BEKR Project serves as a crucial aid mechanism in disaster response, reflecting a people-first governance approach under the leadership of the Premier of Sarawak. Dato Ir. Lo also hoped similar initiatives would continue, so more families in need can benefit.

The recipients, visibly emotional and thankful, shared their appreciation for the swift action and generosity shown by both the government and supporting agencies. For many, it marked the beginning of a new chapter after months of uncertainty.
