Batang Sadong Launches Road Project to Boost Rural Agriculture

Batang Sadong Launches Road Project to Boost Rural Agriculture

SIMUNJAN – A new agricultural infrastructure project aimed at supporting rural farmers in Batang Sadong has officially commenced with the launch of a road development initiative in Kampung Sungai Lingkau.

The handover ceremony for the Proposed Project to Build Rice Crop Infrastructure was officiated by Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, on Friday. During the event, the Samarahan Division’s Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) formally handed over the project to the selected contractor for implementation.

The project involves constructing a 520-metre-long, four-metre-wide gravel road to connect an orchard to a paddy field. With a budget allocation of RM380,000, the road is scheduled for completion by mid-November 2025.

“This may be a small-scale project, but it offers immense benefits to our farmers,” said Rodiyah. “The improved access will increase comfort, support greater efficiency in agricultural activities, and help boost paddy production in the area.”

She added that the initiative is expected to act as a catalyst for rural agricultural development in Batang Sadong, paving the way for increased crop yields and higher income among local farming communities.

The road construction includes a full technical build with sub-grade, sub-base, base, and surface works to meet the agricultural infrastructure standards required for heavy-duty rural farming use.

This development aligns with the government’s broader objective of strengthening Malaysia’s food production chain and ensuring food security, particularly through enhanced support for rural agricultural sectors.

Rodiyah expressed optimism that this project would serve as a stepping stone for further infrastructure investments in Batang Sadong, benefitting farmers and reinforcing Sarawak’s agricultural sustainability.
