Senator Susan Highlights Women’s Role in Driving Community Development

BALAI RINGIN — Senator Susan Chemerai Anding has emphasised the pivotal role of women in empowering communities by disseminating development policies and participating actively in local initiatives.

Speaking during an engagement session with the Women’s Committee of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Branch N30 Balai Ringin today, Senator Susan underscored the importance of female participation in community-level programmes and the delivery of key government policies.

“Women today not only play essential roles within the family unit, but also serve as informants and facilitators who help the wider community understand and engage with development agendas,” she said.

The session covered proposals such as conducting women’s leadership workshops, initiating community welfare programmes, and organising informational briefings on various state-led initiatives. These include the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, rural development programmes, and government assistance schemes designed to uplift communities across Sarawak.

Senator Susan further encouraged greater female involvement in community development efforts, stressing the need for women to set examples of grassroots leadership and actively contribute to local progress.

“Women need to be given the space and motivation to grow their capacities—be it through education, training, or participation in community organisations,” she added.

The dialogue reflects the Sarawak Government’s broader commitment to inclusive development, focusing on equipping women with the tools and opportunities to lead and drive change within their communities.
