Premier of Sarawak Joins PM Anwar in Jakarta for Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Meet

Premier of Sarawak Joins PM Anwar in Jakarta for Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Meet

JAKARTASarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, together with a delegation from the Sarawak Government, arrived in Jakarta on Sunday to join Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation.

The Premier and his delegation landed at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport at 11.17am local time and were escorted to the Hotel Indonesia Kempinski. The Sarawak Premier was received by Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy & PETROS), Dato Ibrahim Baki.

The visit marks a significant show of regional solidarity and Sarawak’s growing involvement in Malaysia’s foreign engagement. The Premier is expected to participate in a series of high-level meetings and bilateral programs involving both governments.

Among the key engagements is a dialogue with Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Malaysian-Indonesian Association of Journalists (ISWAMI), along with a meeting with President Joko Widodo at Istana Merdeka.

The visit also features the Sempekat Pemereti Ati programme, a cultural and diplomatic initiative jointly led by Malaysia’s and Indonesia’s foreign ministries to strengthen people-to-people ties.

Additionally, Sarawak’s involvement in the 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation (Randau Ninting) underscores its commitment to regional diplomacy and cooperation.

Premier Abang Johari will also attend the ASEAN Secretariat Opening Ceremony in Jakarta, which includes a tree-planting programme, a photo session with the ASEAN-Malaysia 2025 organising committee, and discussions on regional partnerships and environmental initiatives.

This visit cements Sarawak’s role as a proactive state actor in Malaysia’s regional diplomacy, particularly ahead of Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
