RM10 Million Sg Batang Road Project Begins, Bringing Hope to Majau Residents

KAPIT — The long-awaited road rehabilitation project for the residents of Rumah Sanggong in Sungai Majau Mujong has officially begun, offering new hope for development and improved connectivity in this remote part of Kapit Division.

Baleh State Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi expressed satisfaction that the RM10 million project is finally being implemented, noting that access roads are essential for bringing growth and services to rural communities like Rumah Sanggong.

“If there is no road, it is difficult for development to reach rural areas. We’ve already seen how communication infrastructure, such as telecommunication transmitters, has improved connectivity in parts of the Kapit market. Now, we move forward with the roads,” he said during the launch of the Land Survey Programme for the main road rehabilitation project on Monday.

The project, which is expected to be completed within 12 months, is part of the Sarawak government’s broader plan to enhance infrastructure in underserved regions. It is coordinated by the Kapit Public Works Department (JKR).

Also present at the launch were Kapit Deputy Resident Robert Liman Deli, Bukit Mabong District Officer Jabang Juntan, and Kapit JKR Engineer Ir Jawa.

According to Ir Jawa, the rehabilitation of the road will greatly benefit residents who have long relied on boats for transportation. “This project is highly significant for the people of Rumah Along as it reflects the government’s serious commitment to helping the rakyat,” he said.

He acknowledged the logistical and weather challenges of the terrain but affirmed confidence in completing the project on schedule.

Nicholas Kudi also urged locals to continue supporting the development policies of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), stating that unity and cooperation are vital for ensuring the success of long-term development plans.
