KUCHING – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi received a courtesy visit from Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah, at the official residence in Kasuma Resort on Tuesday afternoon.
The 2:30pm visit served as a platform for the Minister to present Toh Puan’s initiative to establish a Final Phase Chronic Patient Care Centre—a proposed palliative care facility for individuals of all ages requiring long-term and end-of-life care.
Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan warmly welcomed the initiative, recognising its importance as Sarawak faces an increasingly ageing population. They expressed full support for the proposal and called on KPWK to prepare a comprehensive concept paper addressing key aspects including funding, human resources, medical expertise, city-based locations, and strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Health, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
During the meeting, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan also shared constructive suggestions with the ministry on improving existing programmes. These included enhancing e-Kasih, integrating humanitarian values into early childhood education, and implementing re-skilling initiatives in rural areas to uplift undereducated citizens.
In addition, Dato Sri Fatimah extended an invitation to Toh Puan to visit the One-Stop Early Intervention Centre (OSEIC), a KPWK initiative aimed at providing developmental support for children with special needs.
The delegation included several senior officials such as Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua (KPWK Permanent Secretary), Datu Saadiah Abdul Samat (OSEIC GM), Tuan Haji Semawi Mohamad (JKMS Director), and other key figures from welfare and childhood development departments.
Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan expressed appreciation to KPWK for its commitment to projects that directly benefit Sarawakians in need and reaffirmed their support for transforming this proposal into a reality.
