SMK Sri Sadong Reborn: RM28.7 Million Upgrade Bridges Rural Education Gap

SIMUNJANSekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sri Sadong in Simunjan now boasts a fresh and modern look following the completion of a RM28.73 million rural education upgrading project, which was officially handed over on Sunday.

The handover ceremony was attended by Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, alongside Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan ADUN Awla Dris, and senior officials from the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Public Works Department (JKR).

The comprehensive project involved the reconstruction of 12 classrooms, five teacher housing units, and supporting facilities to enhance the school’s infrastructure.

The project, which commenced on March 17, 2022, was implemented using conventional construction methods by Welfield Services Sdn Bhd, under the supervision of JKR Project Implementation Team 2 (PPK2).

Describing the achievement as a model of inter-agency coordination, Nanta highlighted its significance in reducing the urban-rural education gap and reinforcing the MADANI Government’s vision.

“This is more than just infrastructure. It reflects the government’s genuine commitment to uplifting the dignity of rural communities and investing in the future of our children,” said Nanta.

He also shared updates on school development in the state, revealing that out of 76 planned projects in Sarawak, 26 have been completed, 30 are under construction, and 20 remain in the planning phase.

The upgraded SMK Sri Sadong is expected to serve as a beacon of educational progress for the Simunjan area, offering improved facilities and opportunities for both students and educators.
