Sarawak Governor Hosts Singapore Minister for Manpower at Astana Negeri

KUCHING – Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, today received a courtesy visit from Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-Charge of Science, Technology and Energy, Dr. Tan See Leng, at the Astana Negeri Sarawak.

The visit highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore, with a particular focus on legal reform, technical education, and skills development for rural communities.

During the meeting, Dr. Tan See Leng shared insights on Singapore’s initiatives in legal policy innovation, the advancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and comprehensive upskilling and reskilling programmes. The discussions also touched on collaboration opportunities that could bring long-term socio-economic benefits to Sarawak, particularly in rural areas.

In recognition of the positive engagement, Dr. Tan extended an invitation to the Governor for an official visit to Singapore in the near future.

Earlier in the day, the Singapore delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak at the new Kompleks Satria Pertiwi – the state’s newly inaugurated administrative hub.

The delegation included key figures from Singapore’s energy and trade sectors, among them Eugene Toh, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Market Authority (EMA); Ong Teng Koon, CEO of Singapore Energy Interconnections (5GE); and Serena Chan, Senior Assistant Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Also in attendance was Fenny Nuli, Director of the Sarawak Regional Office of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscoring the diplomatic importance of the visit.

The courtesy call marks a significant milestone in ongoing Malaysia-Singapore relations, especially in advancing mutual goals in manpower development and energy cooperation.
