The front passenger, a local man in his 20s, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at 4.21am.

The driver, a woman in her 30s, and two other male passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to SGH for medical treatment.

Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death. If convicted, the accused may face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000.

ACP Alexson urged members of the public who may have witnessed the crash or have information about the incident to assist in the investigation. They can contact Insp. Mohd Rashdan bin Rosli at 013-6204758 or reach the Kuching Traffic Police at 082-259900, or visit the nearest police station.

He also reminded all road users to always drive carefully, follow speed limits, and obey all traffic rules to prevent such unfortunate incidents.

“This tragedy serves as a painful reminder that one moment of recklessness can change lives forever. We urge all drivers to be responsible behind the wheel,” he added.
