MIRI – Police have seized 18 motorcycles and issued a total of 101 summonses during Op Samseng Jalanan (Street Gang Operation) conducted at several hotspot locations around the city last night.

Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the operation was conducted between 6.00pm and 9.30pm targeting areas frequently used by reckless riders and street gangs.
The locations covered included Jalan Banda Raya Miri, Jalan Marina, Jalan Miri-Bypass, Jalan Tanjung Lobang, and Jalan Tudan.
“A total of 35 vehicles were inspected and 18 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for being modified from the original structure and for further inspection,” ACP Mohd Farhan said in a statement today.
During the operation, police also inspected 42 individuals and issued 101 summonses for various traffic offences, including illegal modifications, riding without a valid licence, and failure to comply with road safety rules.

ACP Mohd Farhan stressed that the main objective of the operation was to curb the growing activities of street gangs, commonly known as “samseng jalanan”, which pose danger not only to themselves but also to other road users.
He added that the police will continue to carry out similar enforcement operations to ensure public safety and to instill discipline among road users.
“Such operations are important to create awareness and remind riders to obey traffic laws. Reckless riding and illegal modifications not only disrupt public order but can also cause accidents and loss of lives,” he said.

The public is urged to cooperate with the police by providing information on illegal street racing and gang-related activities to help maintain peace and safety in Miri.
