Two Killed, Six Hurt in Crash at Bukit Sabal Tapang on Pan Borneo Highway

SERIAN – Two people were killed while six others, including a baby, were injured in a head-on crash involving a Toyota Avanza on Jalan Bukit Sabal Tapang, along the Pan Borneo Highway near Serian this morning.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre (PGO), an emergency call was received at 9.37am. Following that, personnel from the Simunjan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) with assistance from the Serian BBP were deployed to the scene, located about 54 kilometres away.

The rescue team arrived at 10.32am and found that the vehicle involved had skidded off the road into a ditch. Eight people were trapped inside.

“Initial assessment confirmed that two victims, who were found unconscious in the ditch, were later pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene. Six other victims, including a baby, sustained various injuries but remained conscious,” said a PGO spokesperson in a statement.

The firefighters used special equipment to extricate the victims, with the operation completed at 10.43am. All victims were then handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for further action.

Apart from rescue operations, firefighters also carried out flushing work to clear the accident site and ensure the safety of other road users. The operation was declared fully completed at 10.53am.

A total of 12 firefighters from BBP Simunjan and BBP Serian were involved in the joint rescue mission.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
