Bintulu to Host Sarawak-Level Malaysia Day 2025 with Focus on Development

Bintulu to Host Sarawak-Level Malaysia Day 2025 with Focus on Development

KUCHING – Preparations are in full swing for the Sarawak-level Malaysia Day 2025 Celebration, which will take place in Bintulu with a strong focus on the town’s rapid growth as a new industrial hub.

This was confirmed after YAB Premier received a courtesy call from Sarawak’s Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex in Petra Jaya this evening.

Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi, who is also the minister in charge of the celebration, briefed the Premier on the final programme arrangements, which have been carefully planned to reflect Sarawak’s progress within Malaysia.

Following the meeting, Dr Stephen Rundi announced in a press conference that the Premier had given his approval to the programme lineup. He said the celebration would carry the theme “Sarawak Maju Makmur Dalam Malaysia”, symbolising the state’s achievements in development while strengthening unity.

“The focus this year is on Bintulu, which has been recognised internationally as a fast-growing industrial cluster. The celebration will highlight Sarawak’s journey – past, present, and future – in line with the recent discussions at the World Economic Forum,” he said.

The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, is expected to attend the celebration as guest of honour. He will be joined by the Premier and other state leaders, making the occasion a significant event for Sarawak.

The programme will begin on 14 September with the Other Religions Thanksgiving Ceremony organised by UNIFOR, followed by a Thanksgiving Ceremony at Assyakirin Mosque on 15 September. On the morning of 16 September, a Malaysia Day Run will take place, before the main celebration that evening at the Bintulu Old Airport.

The closing ceremony is expected to draw around 10,000 people, making it one of the largest gatherings in Bintulu in recent years.

Also present during the courtesy call were Bintulu Division Resident Datu Nyurak Keti and Director of the Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonies and Event Management Unit, Datu Hamdan Sharbini.
