KUCHING — Fire safety preparedness at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has been further strengthened through a three-day Basic Fire Safety Course held from August 18 to 20, 2025.
The closing ceremony was officiated on Wednesday by Sarawak State Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, at the DUN Building.
The programme gathered DUN staff, representatives from the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit, and building contractors, with training focusing on both theoretical and practical aspects of fire safety.
Participants received guidance on fire extinguishing techniques, evacuation procedures, fire drills, and overall workplace safety, with training sessions conducted by officers from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that assembly staff and on-site personnel are well-prepared to respond effectively in the event of an emergency, thereby safeguarding the premises and its occupants.
Also present at the closing ceremony were Sarawak State Assembly Secretary, Nur Azhar Bujang, along with fire officers and staff who took part in the course.
Organisers hope the training will raise awareness, strengthen safety culture, and enhance the level of preparedness within the DUN building.
