Task Force Formed to Tackle Utility Theft and Vandalism in Simunjan

SIMUNJAN — A dedicated Task Force Committee has been established by the Simunjan District Office to tackle the growing issue of vandalism and theft of utility facilities, including cables and transformers, in the district.

The move was confirmed during the Simunjan District Social Issues Action Coordination Meeting, chaired by District Officer Sanuyah Mohamad at the Simunjan District Office today.

The session brought together more than 60 representatives from key agencies such as Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), government departments, and grassroots leaders under the Community and Tribal Leaders Council (KMKK).

Sanuyah stressed that the new task force will serve as a strategic coordination platform, enabling faster responses and stronger collaboration between enforcement agencies and local communities.

“Cooperation from all parties is very important because this issue directly affects the smooth supply of utilities and community safety,” he said.

During the meeting, SEB highlighted losses caused by theft which have disrupted electricity services to consumers, while the district police chief shared updates on investigations and enforcement operations currently underway.

The involvement of KMKK leaders was also underlined as crucial, given their ability to channel early information and assist in monitoring vulnerable areas.

The meeting concluded with further discussions on strengthening security mechanisms and preventive measures at high-risk locations across Simunjan.
