According to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Henry Jugah, the department received an emergency call at 3.18am regarding the incident.

Following the alert, a six-member team from Lutong BBP was immediately dispatched to the location, which was about 12 kilometres away from the station.

“When the Emergency Operations Team (EOT) arrived at the scene, they confirmed that the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. At that time, about 95 percent of the car had already been burned,” Henry said in a statement.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at press time.

Incidents involving vehicle fires are not uncommon in Sarawak, with the Fire and Rescue Department often reminding vehicle owners to carry out regular maintenance to avoid risks such as fuel leaks, overheating, or faulty wiring.

Henry also urged the public to immediately contact the Fire and Rescue Department in the event of such emergencies and to avoid approaching vehicles that are already on fire due to the risk of explosion.

The quick response by the Lutong BBP team prevented the fire from spreading further and ensured that the situation was brought under control swiftly.
