YB Lo Joins Youths for Fire Safety Programme at Batu Lintang

KUCHING: The N13 Batu Kitang assemblyman, Dato Lo Khere Chiang, together with Batu Kitang SUPP Youth members, joined the Youth Visit Programme at Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Batu Lintang today, focusing on fire safety, disaster preparedness, and leadership building.

The programme was aimed at raising disaster awareness and giving youths a deeper understanding of the daily duties and rescue techniques of firefighters. The activity was led by Balai Bomba Batu Lintang personnel, who guided participants through a tour of fire engines, rescue equipment, and standard operating procedures.

Firefighters also conducted practical demonstrations on the correct use of fire extinguishers and shared valuable knowledge on self-rescue and mutual assistance during emergencies.

YB Lo, who was accompanied by Batu Kitang SUPP Youth Chief and MPP Councillor Alvin Chong, Together with Gordon Surein Raj described the initiative as meaningful for the community. “This programme is not just about learning how to deal with fires or disasters but also about instilling leadership qualities, teamwork, and responsibility among our youths,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to the dedicated Bomba team and organisers for their efforts, adding that such exchanges allow young people to witness first-hand the challenges and discipline required in firefighting.

The session also featured interactive activities that promoted communication, teamwork, and problem-solving among participants. Parents and community members welcomed the effort, noting that it is crucial for young people to understand both disaster prevention and the importance of cooperation during emergencies.

Lo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting similar community-based programmes in Batu Kitang, stressing that shaping responsible and safety-conscious youths today will contribute to building a stronger and safer society in the future.

This initiative, jointly organised by the Batu Kitang SUPP Youth Wing and Balai Bomba Batu Lintang, reflects the importance of collaboration between community leaders and enforcement agencies in fostering awareness and preparedness among the younger generation.
