Boathouse Fire in Kampung Luak Leaves Two Boats Destroyed

MIRI – A fire broke out at a boathouse in Kampung Luak this afternoon, damaging part of the structure and destroying two boats stored inside.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the fire occurred at around 2.36pm and affected a shed measuring about 15 by 30 square feet. The boathouse was reported to be 20 percent destroyed.

The incident also caused damage to two fibreglass boats that were kept inside. One boat suffered nearly 50 percent destruction, while the other was completely gutted by the blaze.

A JBPM Operations Centre (PGO) spokesperson said the Miri Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched immediately after receiving the emergency call.

“Upon arrival, our team found that the fire had already spread to the boathouse and boats. The fire brigade acted quickly, using one primary hose line with a nozzle and water supply from the fire engine to bring the flames under control,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

He added that the fire was successfully controlled and fully extinguished within a short period of time. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the extent of losses.

This is the latest fire case reported in Miri this month, and authorities continue to remind the public to remain alert to fire hazards, especially in areas where fuel, boats, and other flammable materials are stored.

The quick action of JBPM ensured that the blaze did not spread further to nearby structures or properties in Kampung Luak.
