Fire Destroys One House, Four Others Damaged in Sibu Blaze

Fire Destroys One House, Four Others Damaged in Sibu Blaze

SIBU – A fire broke out early this morning at Lorong 4, Jalan Sukun, reducing one house to ashes and partially damaging four other nearby homes.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), the blaze started around 7.15 am. While one house was completely destroyed, two others suffered about 10 percent damage in the car park area, while another two sustained around 5 percent damage.

The fire also gutted four vehicles, including a motorcycle, which were totally destroyed.

Eighteen personnel from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and Sungai Merah BBP, along with three fire vehicles including the Emergency Medical Services (EMRS) Unit, were dispatched to the scene.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The firefighting operation ended at 8.40 am after the fire was successfully brought under control.

Sibu Zone Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) chief, Andy Alie, was present to oversee the operation. Other agencies also assisted, including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and SESCO.

Residents nearby were seen rushing out of their homes as thick smoke filled the sky. Firemen acted quickly to prevent the flames from spreading further in the densely populated residential area.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire, while the total losses are still being assessed.

The quick response of JBPM and supporting agencies is believed to have prevented further destruction, saving more families from losing their homes and belongings.
