Sarawak Premier Leads Delegation to Advance Green Energy Talks in Berlin & Paris

Sarawak Premier Leads Delegation to Advance Green Energy Talks in Berlin & Paris

BERLIN – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg is spearheading a government delegation on a working visit to Berlin, Germany, and Paris, France from September 7 to 9.

The delegation arrived safely in Berlin on Sunday evening. Besides the Premier, the group includes Sarawak Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Deputy Minister of Utilities Dato Ibrahim Baki, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datu Abang Ahmad Abang Morni, and SEB Group CEO Datuk Sharbini Suhaili.

On Monday, the Premier and his team toured Siemens Energy’s headquarters in Berlin’s Huttenstraße. Their schedule included a meeting with Siemens Energy’s Executive Vice President for Global Functions, Juha Pankakoshi, followed by visits to key facilities such as the Electrolyser Plant, Gas Turbine Plant, and Innovation Centre.

This engagement is aligned with Sarawak’s strategic interest in expanding its green energy expertise and hydrogen capabilities.

Following the Berlin visit, the Premier will attend the International Pumped Storage Hydropower Forum in Paris on September 9, themed “Pump it up! Powering a Decarbonised World.” At UNESCO House, he is slated to deliver a keynote address emphasizing Sarawak’s vision to become a leader in renewable energy and hydrogen production for global markets.

Additionally, the Premier will hold bilateral discussions with French Minister of Industry and Energy Marc Ferracci and Malcolm Turnbull, President of the International Hydropower Association.

This will be followed by a visit to the headquarters of Électricité de France (EDF) before the delegation returns to Sarawak.

This official trip underscores Sarawak’s commitment to advancing its green energy agenda under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint 2030, reinforcing its role as a key regional and international clean energy hub.
