SIBURAN – A house in Kampung Mambong was struck by a kitchen fire this afternoon, but no injuries were reported thanks to the swift action of the homeowner.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Operations Centre received an emergency call at 3.10pm. A team from Siburan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was immediately dispatched to the scene, located about 17 kilometres away, and arrived within 20 minutes.
Operations Commander Ahmad Shah Sa’ad said investigations revealed that the fire had damaged almost 95 percent of the kitchen area, measuring 10 by 20 square feet. The space was also being used as a storage area.
“The fire destroyed several electrical appliances and a Yamaha Legend motorcycle that was kept inside,” he said.
Ahmad Shah added that the homeowner managed to extinguish most of the flames before firefighters arrived, preventing the blaze from spreading further into other parts of the house.
“Upon arrival, our team ensured that the remaining embers were fully put out using a hose reel. The operation was declared completely under control at 4.10pm,” he explained.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, no injuries were reported during the incident. Authorities have reminded the public to remain cautious when storing flammable items inside homes and to ensure proper maintenance of electrical appliances.
The Fire and Rescue Department also encouraged residents to keep basic fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers at home to help manage small-scale fires before they spread.
The swift response of both the homeowner and the fire brigade prevented what could have been a much more serious tragedy in Kampung Mambong.
