KUCHING — Police here confirmed three separate sudden death cases reported on Tuesday (Sept 10), sparking concern among residents in the city.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the first case was reported at about 1.34 pm, when police received a call regarding a man who had collapsed in front of BS Supermarket at Jalan Depo, opposite SMK Semerah Padi.
“The 46-year-old local man was found unconscious at the scene and was later confirmed dead by medical personnel. His body was then sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) Forensic Department for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement.
At about 8.15 pm, police were again alerted after a man was found unconscious at a workers’ quarters in Lorong Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim. A team from Padungan police station was dispatched and upon arrival, they found the victim, an Indonesian national in his 30s, already dead. His remains were also sent to SGH for further medical examination.
Later the same night, at around 11.24 pm, police received another report, this time of a foul smell coming from a rented room in Metrocity. Officers from Gita police station rushed to the scene and discovered the decomposed body of a local man in his 70s. His body too was taken to SGH for a post-mortem.
According to ACP Alexson, initial investigations at all three locations showed no elements of foul play. The cases are currently classified as sudden death.
“We advise the public not to speculate on these incidents out of respect for the families involved. The three deaths, which occurred within hours of each other, have unsettled Kuching residents, though police have assured that there is no indication of criminal activity.
