Curtin Malaysia Hosts Major Career Fair with 49 Organizations

MIRI – Curtin University Malaysia inaugurated its annual Careers Fair on Thursday, uniting 49 local, regional, and international organizations in one of Sarawak’s most significant employment events.

The two-day fair, held at the university’s Recreation and Event Hall, aims to bridge the gap between academic training and industry demands while fostering networking opportunities for students, graduates, and professionals.

Councillor Leslie Lau Ik Chie, representing Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, officiated the opening ceremony.

Professor Vincent Lee, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Malaysia, highlighted the fair’s role beyond mere job recruitment, noting its capacity to spark transformative career pathways and industry-academia collaboration.

“Every conversation here has the potential to be the starting point for life-changing opportunities,” he stated, underscoring the university’s legacy of producing over 10,000 graduates since its establishment 26 years ago.

Datuk Sebastian Ting, in a speech delivered by Leslie Lau, emphasized the event’s contribution to building a resilient and creative workforce. “The presence of 49 organizations proves that the talent nurtured in Miri is in high demand,” he remarked, praising Curtin Malaysia’s efforts to align education with industry needs and support Sarawak’s vision of developing a highly skilled talent pool.

Scheduled from 11–12 September 2025, the fair features sectors such as engineering, finance, insurance, manufacturing, education, information technology, oil and gas, agribusiness, healthcare, and clean energy.

Activities include on-the-spot interviews, career development workshops, résumé clinics, and industry-led panel discussions, providing attendees with practical insights and engagement opportunities.

Open to Curtin Malaysia students, alumni, and the broader Miri community, the event reinforces the university’s role as a catalyst for regional economic growth.

Pre-fair workshops on résumé writing and interview techniques were also held to prepare participants for maximum engagement.
