Sarawak Recognized as Global New Energy Development Leader

LIMBANG – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared Sarawak a global leader in new energy development, highlighting the state’s transformative progress under its current leadership.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the Second Trunk Road (SSLR) Phase 2 here on Thursday, he emphasized that Sarawak’s reputation has evolved significantly over the past decades, gaining international recognition for its pioneering role in sustainable energy.

“Everywhere I go Geneva, Paris, Japan people refer to Sarawak as a giant in new energy within the region,” the Prime Minister stated.

He contrasted the state’s contemporary achievements with its status half a century ago, attributing this advancement to visionary governance.

The event was attended by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof, and other federal and state dignitaries.

Anwar also praised the state’s forward-thinking approach, revealing that he invited the Sarawak Premier to share insights on development strategies with other Malaysian states during a recent meeting of Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers.

He noted that Sarawak’s innovative initiatives, including upcoming technology launches in Kuching, position it ahead of other regions.

In a related development, the Prime Minister approved an RM11 million allocation for the construction of the Medamit Health Clinic, a project advocated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Limbang Member of Parliament Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.

The SSLR Phase 2 project, valued at RM7.15 billion, commenced on June 24, 2024, and is slated for completion by June 23, 2029.

It encompasses the construction of 335 kilometers of new roads, connecting key routes including Mulu to Long Seridan, Long Seridan to Nanga Medamit, Long Luping to Long Komap in Ba’Kelalan, and Rumah Aling to Long Luping.
