Sarawak Police Commissioner Pays Farewell Visit to Premier Before Retirement

KUCHING – Outgoing Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata paid a final courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Friday, ahead of his mandatory retirement on September 29.

The visit marked the conclusion of Mancha’s 39-year career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), during which he made history as the first Dayak to hold the position of Sarawak Police Commissioner.

Mancha expressed gratitude to the Premier, state government, and Sarawakians for their support during his tenure. He emphasized the collaborative efforts that helped maintain public safety and control crime rates across the state.

Reflecting on his service, he stated, “As a son of Sarawak, I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in my own homeland”.

The official handover to his successor, Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah, is scheduled for September 26. Mancha expressed confidence in Abdullah’s ability to continue strengthening security and community welfare in Sarawak.

Mancha’s career began in Perak with the VAT69 Special Forces unit, where he served for nearly three decades.

He later held key roles in Sabah and Sarawak, including Deputy Commander of the General Operations Force (GOF) Sabah Brigade and Commander of the GOF Sarawak Brigade, before his appointment as Deputy Sarawak Police Commissioner in 2021 and Commissioner in 2023. His leadership has been widely praised for its integrity and dedication to public service.
