Fatal Road Crash at Jalan Green: Motorcyclist Dead, Pillion Rider Injured

KUCHING — A midnight accident at Jalan Green claimed the life of a motorcyclist while leaving a young woman seriously injured, after a car driven by a 22-year-old woman crashed into their motorcycle.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed that the motorcyclist died at the scene due to severe injuries. The pillion rider, a 21-year-old local woman, was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital by ambulance for immediate treatment.

The incident, which involved a Perodua Alza MPV and a Yamaha motorcycle, occurred around midnight when the MPV, travelling from Jalan Stapok towards the Kuching Waterfront, lost control and veered into the opposite lane. The vehicle then collided with the motorcycle that was moving along Jalan Green.

ACP Alexson said the driver of the car, a 22-year-old local woman, has been detained to assist with investigations. He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Police are now appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the crash or have any information to come forward. Anyone with details can contact Traffic Investigating Officer Insp. Saundri A/P Govinda Rajoo at 011-27549620 / 082-259900, or report to the nearest police station.

In his statement, ACP Alexson also reminded all motorists to remain alert and disciplined while on the road. “Every driver and rider must comply with traffic rules to safeguard their own safety as well as that of others,” he said.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by road users in Kuching, where several accidents have been reported in recent months due to speeding, reckless driving, and failure to obey traffic laws. Authorities continue to stress the importance of responsible driving to prevent further loss of life.
