Two Unemployed Men Arrested in Bau After Testing Positive for Drugs

KUCHING: Two local men were arrested by police after testing positive for drugs during a targeted operation conducted by the Bau District Police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) on Monday evening.

Bau District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Haide A. Rahaman, said the arrests were made between 6.00 pm and 7.00 pm as part of the division’s ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in the district.

According to him, the suspects—both unemployed—were detained separately at Taman Mutiara Jambusan and Kampung Opar, Bau. During the operation, the men were subjected to an initial urine screening test which showed positive results for drug consumption.

“The investigation revealed that both suspects had been involved in drug use. They have been arrested and are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” Superintendent Mohd Haide said in a statement today.

He added that the police remain committed to intensifying anti-drug operations and monitoring activities in rural and suburban areas to prevent the spread of drug abuse, especially among the youth and unemployed individuals.

The suspects are currently being held at the Bau District Police Headquarters for further investigation. Upon conviction, they could face a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, as stipulated under the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Superintendent Mohd Haide also urged the public to continue cooperating with the authorities by sharing information related to drug activities in their respective areas. He said community awareness and early reporting play a crucial role in helping police combat the ongoing drug menace.
