KUCHING: SUPP Public Complaints Bureau chief, Milton Foo, has strongly condemned the repeated vandalism acts against Mr Tan’s residence and called on the police to take swift action to protect the elderly couple living there.
Over the past week, a semi-naked man was reportedly seen damaging Mr Tan’s property by throwing stones, breaking windows, and spray-painting the Mandarin words for “owe debt” on the front gate.
Speaking at a press conference today, Foo urged the suspect to come forward and settle any dispute in a civilised manner rather than resorting to intimidation or destruction.
“Do not threaten Mr Tan by throwing bricks or spray-painting his gate. This behaviour is unacceptable and must stop immediately,” Foo said firmly.
He stressed that such acts have caused unnecessary fear and distress to the victims, who are elderly and live alone. Foo added that the authorities must take this matter seriously and ensure the safety of the couple.
Mr Tan, who attended the press conference, expressed confusion and concern over the attacks. He stated that he does not owe anyone money nor has he offended anyone.
“I really do not understand why someone would do this. I don’t know the suspect and have no debts,” he said.
Mr Tan explained that his son works outstation and his daughter is married, leaving him and his wife alone at home. He also mentioned that several parcels not belonging to him had been delivered to his address recently, raising the possibility of a mistaken identity.
CCTV footage capturing the suspect’s actions has been submitted to the police for further investigation.
Foo reminded the public that even in debt collection cases, no one has the right to use criminal methods.
“If there is a misunderstanding, it should be resolved lawfully, not through violence or intimidation,” Foo emphasised.
