Police Nab Two Men Linked to Bintawa Shop Burglary in Swift Operation

KUCHING: A quick response by Kuching police has led to the arrest of two men believed to be involved in a shop burglary that took place in the Bintawa area earlier this week.

The suspects, aged in their 30s, were detained by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) during a raid at a residential area in Batu Kawa around 5pm yesterday.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed that the two suspects — one a local man and the other a foreign national — are believed to be directly linked to the burglary reported at 1.18pm on the same day.

“The arrest was made based on information and quick investigation by our team. Both suspects were found to be involved in the burglary incident and were apprehended without resistance,” said ACP Alexson in a statement today.

He further revealed that urine tests conducted on both suspects returned positive for drugs, adding another layer to the investigation.

“The suspects have been remanded for seven days to assist in further investigation,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and a fine upon conviction.

ACP Alexson urged members of the public who have any information related to the case or other similar incidents to come forward and assist police investigations.

“Anyone with information can contact the nearest police station or reach the Kuching IPD Control Centre at 082-244444,” he said.

The swift arrest underscores the commitment of the Kuching police in ensuring public safety and cracking down on burglary cases in the city.
