Miri Charity Run Fosters Community Spirit

Miri Charity Run Fosters Community Spirit

MIRI – A spirit of community and compassion took centre stage as 1,800 runners participated in the 21st Dynasty Charity Half Marathon 2025.

The event, which started from the Dynasty Hotel grounds, successfully combined promoting physical health with its primary goal of raising funds for those in need.

The gathering was officiated by Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak’s Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing.

In her address, she highlighted how the event’s theme, “Run for Charity, Help the Needy, Towards a Caring Society”, aligns perfectly with the state government’s broader human development objectives.

She noted that the run supports the official aspiration to cultivate a more inclusive and compassionate society.

A key charitable component of the event was the distribution of food baskets, each valued at RM150, to less fortunate members of the community.

These parcels were presented as a symbol of societal solidarity and dignity for the recipients. The half-marathon serves as the primary fundraiser for the Dynasty Charity Fund, which has a significant history of philanthropy.

Through this and previous events, the fund has disbursed approximately RM1.5 million in aid to thousands of beneficiaries across Miri and Kuching.

This sustained effort demonstrates a long-term commitment to addressing welfare needs within the community.

The presence of several government officials underscored the event’s importance. Attendees included Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts I (Tourism), and Datuk Rosey Yunus, the Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing I.

Also in attendance were Miri Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang and Telang Usan Assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau.

Their collective presence signified a cross-governmental support for initiatives that blend healthy living with direct social aid, reinforcing the message that community wellbeing is a shared responsibility.
