KUCHING – The Swinburne Open 2025 Badminton Championship concluded successfully, highlighting themes of youthful energy, unity, and athletic excellence.
The tournament, which drew participants from across the country, culminated in an energetic final ceremony at the Swinburne Multipurpose Hall.
Representing Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Political Secretary Kho Teck Wan addressed the gathering.
The message delivered emphasised that the event transcended mere competition, serving instead as a celebration of resilience, talent, and unity among the younger generation.
This year’s competition demonstrated significant reach beyond Sarawak’s borders. A total of 96 players, forming 12 distinct teams, participated in the championship.
The roster included 14 athletes from West Malaysia and three from Sabah, indicating the event’s growing national appeal.
Datuk Amar Dr. Sim’s speech commended all athletes for their display of determination and collaborative spirit.
He noted that while only one team could lift the trophy, every participant was a winner for embodying the true principles of sportsmanship.
“Nation building has always been close to my heart,” the Deputy Premier’s message stated. It elaborated that sporting events are crucial for moulding the state’s and nation’s future, as they instil discipline and teamwork while forging connections between people.
The championship’s top honours were claimed by Team Proton King, which was crowned overall champion following a series of consistent performances.
Team Slogan A secured first runner-up, with Team Legacy finishing as second runner-up. Individual excellence was also recognised, with Eddrall Atek from the winning team named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his outstanding skill and leadership.
The organising committee received praise for their meticulous planning and leadership, which were instrumental in the event’s success.
The closing message encouraged youth to carry the values learned in sports, such as perseverance and fair play, into their future endeavours, contributing to a better Sarawak and a stronger Malaysia.
