Educators Honoured As Pillars Of Sarawak’s Development

LUNDU – The critical role of education in shaping Sarawak’s future has been underscored at a recent ceremony honouring dedicated teaching staff. Opar State Assemblyman, Billy Sujang, articulated that education serves as the cornerstone for developing knowledgeable and ethically grounded human capital, essential for the state’s advancement towards its 2030 objectives.

He delivered this message during the Lundu District Education Office Excellent Service Award and Retirement 2025 ceremony, held at the Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) in Lundu. The event celebrated the contributions of 74 recipients of the Excellent Service Award (APC) and 25 education professionals who are retiring this year.

Sujang emphasised that educators are the fundamental pillars in moulding a generation that excels not only academically but also in moral character and human values. He reflected on the profound impact teachers have on individual lives and the broader community, noting that their efforts have been instrumental in producing successful and devoted Sarawakians.

“Without teachers, I myself would not be standing before you today,” Sujang stated. He highlighted that the services and sacrifices of educators have shaped countless individuals, contributing significantly to the state’s progress. The recognition event, he said, symbolises more than individual achievement; it honours the sincerity, perseverance, and integrity of those who form the backbone of Sarawak’s development.

In a significant announcement, the assemblyman revealed that the state government has approved nearly RM980,000 for three upgrading projects at SMK Lundu. These include the construction of a new dining hall, which is reportedly nearing completion. This investment aims to ensure that students in the Lundu district have access to equitable and high-quality educational facilities.

Sujang stressed that his responsibilities extend beyond the Opar state constituency to encompass the entire Lundu district, ensuring all students benefit from improved infrastructure. He called upon educators to maintain an excellent work culture and a spirit of unity, which are vital for building a robust educational framework for Sarawak’s future.

“Instill the right in people, and correct the common,” he urged, outlining a principle he believes every educator should uphold in their mission to cultivate a knowledgeable and moral generation. The ceremony was enhanced with special performances by school staff, and souvenirs were presented to retirees in appreciation of their dedicated service.

The event was attended by Lundu District Education Officer, Bahron Othman, among other officials. This initiative aligns with broader state efforts to enhance educational outcomes, particularly in rural areas, where teachers play a pivotal role in community development and youth empowerment.

Sarawak’s focus on education is part of a larger strategy to build a skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth and innovation. By honouring educators and investing in school infrastructure, the state aims to strengthen its human capital, ensuring long-term prosperity and sustainability. The ceremony in Lundu exemplifies the ongoing commitment to valuing those at the forefront of this mission.
