Sarawak’s Young Star Taylor Louise to Perform at Paris’ Opéra Bastille

Sarawak’s Young Star Taylor Louise to Perform at Paris’ Opéra Bastille

KUCHING — Sarawak’s young singing prodigy, Taylor Louise Fong, has once again brought pride to Malaysia after being invited to perform at The Studio of the Opéra Bastille in Paris, France this coming 12 December.

The 11-year-old vocalist earned the honour following her impressive victory at the 2025 International Music Competition Paris Grand Prize Virtuoso, where she clinched both the First Prize and the Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize. Her achievement places her among the top young voices in the international music scene and marks another milestone for Sarawak’s growing presence in the world of performing arts.

In an emotional statement, Taylor expressed her gratitude and excitement at being chosen to represent her homeland once more. She said she was deeply honoured to carry the name of Sarawak and Malaysia to Paris, giving glory to God for the opportunity. “I’m so honoured to represent my home — Sarawak, Malaysia — and now to Paris, France. All glory to God for this blessing. Please keep me in your prayers for a smooth journey and performance. Let’s show the world that a Kuching girl can do it too!” she said.

Taylor began her musical journey from humble beginnings, performing at street busking sessions and local open mic events around Kuching before undergoing formal training under the guidance of award-winning choral conductor Sabrina Tnay. Over the years, her passion and discipline have earned her national and international recognition.

Earlier this year, Taylor proudly represented Malaysia at the ASAF Winner Showcase at the Royal College of Music Britten Theatre in London, and at the Sanremo Junior World Finals in Italy, where she ranked among the Top 5. Her long list of accomplishments also includes a Gold and Division Champion title at the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, as well as Double Champion awards at the Asia Students Arts Festival in Singapore and Hong Kong.

In August, Taylor gained further recognition when she played the role of Rayna in Dreamweaver, a musical theatre production by Tanoti held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). Notably, she was the only child performer in an otherwise all-adult cast.

Taylor’s achievements continue to inspire young Sarawakians who aspire to pursue their dreams in music and the performing arts. Her upcoming performance at the Opéra Bastille is not just a personal triumph but also a proud moment for Malaysia, showcasing that world-class talent can indeed come from local roots.

Her steady rise to international fame stands as proof that determination, faith, and community support can propel even the youngest of talents to the global stage. As Taylor prepares for her Paris debut, Sarawakians and Malaysians alike look forward to seeing their young star continue to shine among the world’s best.
