SARIKEI – The United Chinese Association (UCA) of Sarikei Division has been recognised as a vital platform for uniting the Chinese community, preserving cultural traditions and fostering harmony within the wider society.
Speaking at the 46th Anniversary Celebration of the UCA Sarikei Division and the Appointment Ceremony of New Committee Members at the Sarikei Central Hall on Friday, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Sarikei MP, Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii, praised the association’s longstanding contributions.
He highlighted the organisation’s role in bringing together various Chinese associations under one umbrella to champion the welfare of the local community.
“The courage to serve the community and preserve culture is a great responsibility that deserves to be praised,” he said, commending both past leaders and the newly appointed Main, Youth and Women’s Committees for their dedication.
Dato’ Sri Huang, who is also the Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), expressed confidence that the association would continue to grow under its new leadership.
He urged all parties to work collectively to maintain racial harmony in Sarikei, stressing that unity and inclusivity are essential for the division’s progress.
As part of his commitment, he announced an allocation of RM30,000 to support the association’s activities and development programmes.
The funding is expected to strengthen the UCA’s role in cultural preservation, social welfare and community-building initiatives.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Dato Sri Richard Wee, President of the Sarawak United Chinese Association, Penghulu Ley Kok Lun, President of the Sarikei Division UCA, and Kua Soon Kien, Organising Chairman and Youth Chief of the division. Their presence underscored the importance of the association as a unifying force in Sarikei.
Over the years, the UCA Sarikei Division has played a central role in promoting cultural heritage, supporting education, and providing a platform for dialogue among different community groups.
Its activities have included cultural festivals, welfare programmes and youth development initiatives, all aimed at strengthening ties within the community.
The anniversary celebration not only marked the association’s achievements but also reaffirmed its mission to serve as a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Leaders emphasised that the UCA will continue to adapt to changing times while safeguarding the values that bind the community together.
With renewed leadership and government support, the UCA Sarikei Division is expected to expand its outreach, ensuring that it remains a cornerstone of unity, cultural preservation and social harmony in the years ahead.
