Kuching Smart Parking by Pay & Go Officially Soft-Launched with Car Free Morning 2025

Kuching Smart Parking by Pay & Go Officially Soft-Launched with Car Free Morning 2025

KUCHING, 2 November 2025 (Sunday) — A new era of digital convenience begins for motorists in Kuching with the soft launch of the Kuching Smart Parking system by Pay & Go, held in conjunction with Kuching Car Free Morning 2025 at Padang Merdeka today.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agency, North Kuching City Hall and Islamic Affairs).

The North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) officially announced Pay & Go Sdn. Bhd. as the new concessionaire for the city’s Smart Parking System, marking a major step forward in the digital transformation of public service delivery. The system’s implementation began on 1 November 2025, following the conclusion of the previous concession under Kuching City Parking System Sdn. Bhd. (KCPS).

According to Datuk Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North, the Kuching Smart Parking initiative represents a milestone in DBKU’s ongoing mission to create a Smart, Sustainable, and Prosperous City.

“DBKU is confident that this new system will enhance user convenience through cashless and contactless payments, while also strengthening enforcement and ensuring transparent and efficient revenue management,” said the Mayor.

Among the key features of the Kuching Smart Parking system are:

  • A GPS-based Pay & Go mobile application,
  • Handheld enforcement devices,
  • QR-coded parking notices for user convenience, and
  • License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras for safer and more efficient operations.

The launch also coincided with the 2025 Children’s Day Celebration, jointly organised by the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing and DBKU. The celebration was filled with family-friendly activities, including children’s exhibitions, folk games, sand art competitions, and cosplay shows, drawing large crowds to Padang Merdeka.

Also in attendance were Yang Berbahagia Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing; Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North; Puan Kartini binti Bushra, Acting Director of DBKU; and representatives from DBKU and Pay & Go Sdn. Bhd.

With this digital initiative now in motion, Kuching drivers can look forward to a more seamless, efficient, and smart parking experience — marking another step forward in Sarawak’s journey toward becoming a smart city leader in Malaysia.
