Ling Kai Cheng Road Upgrade Progresses Smoothly with Safety Measures

SIBU – The Ling Kai Cheng Road upgrading works are progressing steadily, with special attention given to areas near SMK Bandar Sibu to minimise dust and ensure the safety of students and teachers.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, who is also the Pelawan State Assemblyman (ADUN), said immediate action was taken after receiving public feedback on dust issues caused by the construction.

Following his intervention, the contractor prioritised asphalt paving near the school, laying the first layer to reduce dust pollution. “This measure has succeeded in reducing dust and creating a cleaner and safer environment for students and parents,” Tiang said.

He added that paving works along the stretch from Ling Kai Cheng towards the town area are also progressing well, with the first asphalt layer expected to be completed within the week.

The road upgrading project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow for local residents. Tiang acknowledged that some inconveniences are unavoidable during construction but expressed confidence that the project will deliver long-term benefits once completed.

To facilitate the works, nighttime road closures along Jalan Ling Kai Cheng will continue until 7 November (Friday). The closures run from 8pm to 4am daily, and motorists are advised to avoid the area or use alternative routes to ensure smoother traffic flow and safety.

The project is part of broader infrastructure improvements in Sibu, with recent allocations also targeting flood-prone sections of Ling Kai Cheng Road to address recurring waterlogging issues.

According to earlier announcements, the government has allocated RM3.61 million for flood mitigation upgrades, which commenced in September 2025 and are expected to be completed by early 2026.

Local residents have welcomed the progress, noting that the improvements will not only reduce dust and flooding but also enhance road safety and accessibility for daily commuters.

With the cooperation of contractors, government agencies and the public, the Ling Kai Cheng Road upgrade is expected to significantly improve living conditions and transport efficiency in Sibu once fully completed.
