Sarawak Governor Arrives for UTS 10th Convocation

SIBU – The 10th Convocation Ceremony of Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) was officiated today by His Excellency Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi.

The couple arrived safely at Sibu Airport at 8.35 am on 8 November, where they were warmly received by senior state and federal officials.

Among those present to welcome them were Tuan Haji Abang Mohd Porkan bin Abang Budiman, Sibu Division Resident, and YDH DSP Ahmad Fhysal, alongside other dignitaries.

Joining the delegation was Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agency, North Kuching City Hall and Islamic Affairs), who attended with his wife, Datin Siti Shorgayah binti Ahmad Zaidin.

In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi expressed his hope that the convocation ceremony would proceed smoothly and successfully.

He extended heartfelt congratulations to all graduates, acknowledging their achievements and perseverance throughout their academic journey.

His Excellency emphasised that convocation ceremonies are not only a celebration of academic success, but also a milestone marking the transition of graduates into professional life.

The UTS convocation is a significant event for Sarawak’s higher education landscape, reflecting the state’s commitment to nurturing talent and producing graduates who can contribute to regional and national development.

The university, established to provide quality education and research opportunities, continues to play a vital role in advancing Sarawak’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), which focuses on innovation, digitalisation and sustainable growth.

This year’s ceremony celebrates graduates from diverse faculties, including engineering, business, computing and social sciences.

The event also highlights UTS’s growing reputation as a centre for academic excellence in East Malaysia, attracting students from across the state and beyond.

Parents, guardians and faculty members gathered in Sibu to witness the milestone occasion, reflecting the strong community support for education in Sarawak.

The presence of the Head of State and his consort added prestige to the ceremony, reinforcing the importance of higher education in shaping the future of Sarawak’s youth.

The 10th Convocation Ceremony of UTS stands as a testament to the university’s progress and its role in producing graduates equipped with skills to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
