Sarawak Governor and Wife Share Lunch at Old Rex Cafe

KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, enjoyed a relaxed lunch at the well-known Old Rex Cafe in Satok on Tuesday, following their official engagements at the Sarawak State Palace in Petra Jaya.

The couple was accompanied by Sharifah Nong-Jasima, daughter of Sharifah Fariah, and her husband Encik Nur Hakeem. Their arrival drew warm greetings from diners and café operators, reflecting the popularity of the venue among locals.

During the visit, Tun Pehin Sri received a thoughtful souvenir from a participant of the National Football Development Programme (NFDP), consisting of two T-shirts and a windbreaker jacket. The gesture highlighted the community’s appreciation for his presence.

The Old Rex Cafe, a nostalgic eatery cherished by Kuching residents, is renowned for its variety of traditional dishes.

On this occasion, Toh Puan Fauziah selected her favourite, the original Malay fried noodles, while Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi opted for the classic Sarawakian mee kolok, a dish deeply rooted in local culinary heritage.

The atmosphere was light-hearted, with the State Chief and his wife engaging in friendly conversations with fellow diners. Among them was a tourist from Hong Kong, who expressed delight at the opportunity to meet and interact with the distinguished couple.

The visit underscored the couple’s approachable nature and their connection with the community, blending official duties with moments of cultural appreciation.

Old Rex Cafe, with its long-standing reputation, continues to serve as a gathering place where tradition and modernity meet, offering both locals and visitors a taste of Sarawak’s culinary identity.

This casual outing followed a series of formal commitments at the State Palace earlier in the day, reflecting the balance between governance and community engagement that characterises the leadership of Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi.
