Sri Aman TVET Carnival Attracts 5,500 Visitors Over Three Days

SIMANGGANG – The Sri Aman Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Carnival 2025 concluded on Sunday with a vibrant showcase that drew 5,500 visitors across three days at Dewan Suarah Sri Aman.

Organised by Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), the event ran from 14 to 16 November and featured interactive exhibitions, competitions and career exposure sessions.

More than 50 government departments and private organisations participated, representing industries such as finance, oil and gas, manufacturing and the creative sector.

Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, officiated the closing ceremony. He commended the strong turnout and emphasised that TVET is increasingly recognised as a vital pathway for Sarawak’s youth.

He described the carnival as a “strategic, high-impact platform to strengthen and elevate TVET as a leading education pathway for the future workforce of Sarawak,” stressing the importance of early exposure to skill-based learning.

The highlight of the final day was the prize presentation ceremony, which celebrated winners across multiple categories. Team BTR Sarawak secured the e-Sports Showdown Mobile Legends title, taking home RM500. Universiti Putra Malaysia won the “Booth Sumpah Best” award, also receiving RM500.

In the culinary and creative competitions, Pricilla Duya Stanley and Adricsmon Aermi triumphed in the Pastry Challenge, while Lerryson Janang and Phyris Davis topped the Cooking Competition. Emelia Cecelia Madong emerged champion in the Makeup Competition, showcasing her artistry.

Technical skills were also in the spotlight. Abang Ashraf Abang Kasmadi and Mohd Azimi won the Electronics category, while Nur Luqman Sulaiman and Muhammad Aliff Aiman claimed victory in the Automotive and Electrical competitions respectively, each earning RM500.

The carnival’s lively participation reflected the growing enthusiasm for TVET among Sarawak’s communities. Organisers highlighted that such events are crucial in preparing a skilled, future-ready workforce aligned with the state’s development agenda.

Also present at the closing ceremony were Siti Haryanie Mohamad, representative of the Sri Aman Resident, Mohd Hamizan Yahya, Administrative Officer of the Sri Aman District Office, Fredick Kevin Buseli, Acting Chief Executive Officer of TEGAS, and Bong Yu Wan, representative of the Sri Aman District Education Office.

The event underscored Sarawak’s commitment to promoting vocational education and equipping young people with practical skills to meet the demands of evolving industries.
