Premier: Integrity and Accountability Anchor Sarawak’s Path to 2030

KUCHINGSarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg has underscored integrity and accountability as the foundation of Sarawak’s sustainable and inclusive development agenda.

Delivering his keynote address at the Sarawak Public Service Day 2025 (HPA) Celebration Ceremony, the Premier emphasised that the trust of the people is the most valuable asset for the government.

He described it as the social capital that enables policies to be implemented effectively and ensures that development outcomes benefit communities across the state.

“Integrity and the people’s trust are not just rhetoric, but are the core of good governance. In the context of Sarawak, these values are translated into tangible actions that directly benefit the people, in line with the main goals of our development planning,” he said.

As an example, he cited the Sarawak Basic Needs Contribution (SKAS) programme, which has successfully delivered aid to even the most remote settlements.

He noted that the sincerity and commitment of civil servants have been crucial in realising the concept of comprehensive development outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

The Premier stressed that adherence to ethics, transparency and accountability enables the civil service to manage projects more effectively, make sound decisions and ensure that development outcomes are of high quality.

He added that by equipping officers with knowledge, skills and values, Sarawak is preparing a workforce capable of driving progress with excellence, innovation and dedication.

“By adhering to ethics, transparency and accountability, the Sarawak Civil Service is able to manage projects more effectively, make the right decisions, and most importantly, ensure that development outcomes have a real impact and high quality to the community,” he said.

He concluded with a passionate appeal, reminding civil servants that they are the “pillar of the people’s trust and Sarawak’s success.”

He urged that integrity and responsibility must guide every action and decision to ensure Sarawak remains firmly on track towards its 2030 vision.

The celebration highlighted the civil service’s pivotal role in shaping Sarawak’s future, reinforcing its position as the driver of transformation under PCDS 2030.
