IPD Meradong Tightens Security With Full-Day Crime Prevention Sweep

MERADONG — A full-scale crime prevention operation was carried out by IPD Meradong on Friday, 21 November 2025, in several high-risk areas around Bintangor. The operation, which ran from 8.00am to 5.00pm, focused on curbing crime, drug activity, gambling, and immoral behaviour while increasing police visibility in known hotspot zones.

The integrated operation targeted several key locations, including Jalan Kelupu, Jalan Bakong, Taman Bintang, Kampung Melayu, and major entry routes from Sibu and Sarikei. These areas were selected based on previous intelligence reports, community complaints, and ongoing assessments of criminal patterns.

Throughout the nine-hour operation, police personnel conducted checks on 88 individuals and inspected 80 vehicles. Officers moved systematically from one hotspot to another, ensuring that no suspicious activity went unnoticed. Their presence was felt strongly across the district, sending a clear message that the authorities remain committed to maintaining public safety.

A total of 13 summonses were issued for various offences during the operation. One arrest was successfully made involving a drug-related case, highlighting the continued threat of narcotics in the community. Police said such targeted enforcement is essential in preventing criminal networks from gaining a foothold in smaller towns.

IPD Meradong emphasized that these operations will continue to be intensified, especially in areas identified as high-risk. The police also urged the public to stay alert and play their part by reporting any suspicious activity immediately.

“Let’s fight crime together,” the statement read, reminding residents that community cooperation remains one of the strongest tools in preventing crime. The police encouraged anyone with information to contact the authorities without hesitation.

With consistent enforcement and strong public support, IPD Meradong aims to create a safer and more secure environment for all residents in the district.
