KUCHING – Sarawak has outlined a structured approach to the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), guided by three key principles: Review, Fix, and Act Anew.
The strategy is designed to ensure continuity while addressing past challenges and preparing the state for new opportunities.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg explained that the government had undertaken a comprehensive Review phase before drafting RMK-13.
This process involved reassessing unresolved issues from RMK-12 and identifying areas requiring improvement.
He noted that the Fix component focuses on strengthening initiatives already introduced under RMK-12. This includes accelerating project delivery and enhancing public service efficiency to ensure that development benefits reach communities more effectively.
The third pillar, Act Anew, represents a forward-looking stance. According to the Premier, this approach enables Sarawak to seize emerging opportunities at global, regional, and local levels.
It is aimed at driving high-impact growth and attracting strategic investments that will position the state competitively in the evolving economic landscape.
As part of RMK-13, the government has identified 15 socio-economic sectors as priority areas. These include energy transition, manufacturing and SME development, commercial agriculture, tourism and creative industries, forest and natural resource management, mining and oil & gas, as well as infrastructure, transport, logistics, and business services.
Beyond these, RMK-13 also places emphasis on digital transformation, innovation, education, and human capital development.
Social services, governance reform, waste management, and the circular economy are also highlighted as essential components of the plan.
The Premier stressed that these sectors are intended to foster inclusive, innovative, and sustainable growth.
By doing so, RMK-13 aims to enhance the well-being of Sarawakians while ensuring the state remains resilient in the face of global economic shifts.
The unveiling of this framework during the final day of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting reflects the government’s determination to build on past achievements while charting a fresh course for the future.
The combination of reviewing past challenges, fixing existing gaps, and acting anew is expected to provide Sarawak with a balanced and dynamic roadmap for long-term development.
