KUALA LUMPUR – His Royal Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has been presented with a detailed briefing on the nation’s flood situation, coastal erosion levels, and ongoing flood mitigation projects. The session took place at Istana Negara on 3 December.
The briefing was delivered by Datuk Ir Mohamad Radzi Abdul Talib, Director-General of the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), with Ir Muhammad Zaki Mashud, Director of Johor JPS, also in attendance.
The presentation outlined current challenges posed by floods and erosion, as well as the progress of mitigation measures being implemented nationwide.
During the session, His Majesty consented to grant permission for the use of land under his ownership to JPS for the construction of a flood reservoir under the Johor River Flood Mitigation Plan Project.
This initiative is expected to strengthen flood defences in Johor and provide long-term protection for communities vulnerable to seasonal flooding.
Sultan Ibrahim emphasised that the safety and welfare of the people remain the highest priority in disaster management efforts.
He noted that effective flood mitigation projects are essential to safeguarding lives, property, and livelihoods, particularly in areas prone to recurring floods.
The briefing also highlighted the importance of coordinated planning between federal and state agencies to address coastal erosion and improve resilience against climate-related challenges.
The Johor River project is part of a broader national strategy to enhance infrastructure and ensure sustainable water management.
His Majesty’s involvement underscores the monarchy’s support for disaster preparedness and resilience-building efforts.
By granting land for flood mitigation, Sultan Ibrahim has reinforced his commitment to protecting communities and ensuring that proactive measures are taken to reduce risks associated with natural disasters.
