KUCHING — The highly anticipated Lee Onn Group Challenge Cup 2025 is set to bring together eighteen of Sarawak’s strongest Traditional Southern Lion Dance teams for a spirited and competitive showdown at Aeroville Mall on 6 and 7 December 2025. With total prizes worth RM10,000, the championship is expected to draw a large crowd of cultural supporters and lion dance enthusiasts from across the state.
Organised by the Chinese Martial Art Association (CMAA), the two-day event will begin at 11am on both days, offering free seating on a first-come, first-served basis. Spectators can expect intense performances, steady drum rhythms and colourful lion movements that highlight the skill and discipline of Sarawak’s lion dance groups.
The Lee Onn Group Challenge Cup 2025 also marks the fourth and final leg of the Sarawak Traditional Southern Lion Dance League 2025. The event is sanctioned by the Dragon & Lion Dances Federation of Malaysia, ensuring that performance standards, judging criteria and competition rules meet national-level expectations.
A simple trophy handover ceremony was held earlier at Aeroville Mall as part of the preparation for the championship. Aeroville Mall CEO and CMAA Advisor, Pemanca Tan Kun Gee, presented the sponsorship on behalf of the mall. He was accompanied by mall officials Ms Alicia Ling, Jennifer Chua and Vincent, who jointly handed over the sponsorship to CMAA Treasurer and Championship Technical Chairman, Mr Nelson Nguang Kim Ban, and Deputy Technical Chairman, Mr Calvin Kong Nyon Chung.
Tan expressed confidence that the Lee Onn Group Challenge Cup 2025 will continue to strengthen appreciation for traditional art forms while preserving the cultural heritage that has long been an integral part of community life in Sarawak. He noted that continued support from organisations and the public helps keep these traditions alive for future generations.
As the final stop of the league, excitement is growing among teams and supporters alike. The battle for the Challenge Cup title is expected to be fierce, as all participating groups aim to close the 2025 season with their strongest performance yet.
The public is encouraged to attend and experience the energy, culture and unity that define the Lee Onn Group Challenge Cup 2025.
