SARIKEI – A series of infrastructure upgrade projects have been submitted in Sarikei, underscoring the Sarawak Government’s commitment to improving public amenities and ensuring better facilities for local communities.
Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Member of Parliament for Sarikei, highlighted several projects aimed at enhancing community spaces and institutions.
These include the construction of an earthen wall at the Sarawak Full Gospel Church, upgrades to the Sarikei Women’s Association (PPWS) building such as a new fence, stainless steel gate, and road paving, as well as corridor floor tiling and wall construction at SJK Su Ming.
The Repok Basketball Stadium will undergo electrical wiring improvements and court floor painting, while the Kong Fock Cemetery will benefit from new toilet facilities and upgrades to its entrance road.
Speaking through his representative, Kapitan Ling Dien Yong, Dato Sri Huang stressed that the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects are designed to ensure that community facilities remain safe, functional, and comfortable for public use.
Schools in Sarikei and Repok have also been prioritised. At SK Selangan, light barriers, ventilation window upgrades, and playground painting are planned. SJK Bulat will see the installation of awnings, drain repairs, and an open roof structure.
SJK Kiew Mang will undergo tiling, wiring, grill installation, and painting of a new building, while SMK Sungai Paoh will have five blocks repainted.
Dato Sri Huang, who also serves as the Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), urged contractors to adhere to schedules and maintain high standards of work to ensure the projects deliver lasting benefits to the community.
The ceremony marking the handover of projects was attended by Sarikei District Council Assistant Engineer Joviana Joklin and Councillor Anthony Suding, reflecting strong local support for the initiatives.
Observers note that these projects highlight Sarawak’s broader development agenda, which focuses on bridging gaps in infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to quality facilities across both urban and rural areas.
By investing in schools, community centres, and recreational spaces, the government aims to foster stronger community ties and improve the quality of life for residents.
