Dr. Sim Stresses Collective Role in State’s Future Progress

KUCHING – Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian has emphasised that the state’s future depends on the collective contributions of all parties, not just the leadership.

Speaking at the 25th Anniversary Charity Gala of the Stampin Branch of the Red Crescent Society (PBSM) on Sunday, Dr Sim reminded that sustainable development requires unity and shared responsibility. He noted that Sarawak’s progress is the result of combined efforts across communities, institutions and individuals.

“Nation building is not about pointing fingers at weaknesses. Each of us must play our role and contribute our part. I can do mine, you can do yours, and together we can achieve something for Sarawak,” he said.

Dr Sim highlighted that Sarawak’s achievements today reflect contributions in both human capital development and volunteerism. He praised the impartial and independent humanitarian work of volunteers, particularly the Red Crescent, which has consistently supported communities during crises.

He recalled the organisation’s role during the COVID-19 pandemic, when volunteers continued to deliver vaccinations and essential services despite widespread restrictions. “During floods, fires, blood donations, school activities and community programmes, we can always see the Red Crescent carrying out their duties,” he added.

As Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Dr Sim stressed that volunteerism demonstrates the resilience and readiness of Sarawak’s people, especially in emergencies. He urged continued support for such movements, which strengthen the state’s social fabric and ensure preparedness for future challenges.

The gala event also recognised the contributions of local leaders and community representatives. Among those present were Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Tan Kai, Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Chew Kim Soon, Chairman of PBSM Stampin Branch, along with other distinguished guests.

The evening underscored the importance of collaboration between government, civil society and volunteers in building a competitive and compassionate Sarawak. Dr Sim’s message reinforced that every effort, whether large or small, contributes to the state’s long-term vision of sustainable growth and unity.
