BARIO – SMK Bario held its annual Excellence Awards 2025 today, honouring students for their academic and co-curricular achievements in a ceremony that reflected pride, resilience, and strong community spirit.
The event was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu Assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, who highlighted the importance of recognising perseverance, discipline, and excellence among students. He also acknowledged the crucial role of teachers and parents in nurturing success.
Datuk Gerawat emphasised that SMK Bario continues to serve as a vital institution for the highland community. Despite geographical challenges, he said the school has proven that determination and commitment can overcome barriers to achievement.
He noted that the Sarawak Government remains committed to strengthening rural education, with ongoing initiatives to improve school infrastructure, expand digital access, enhance hostel facilities, and provide academic support.
These measures, he explained, are designed to ensure that students in Bario enjoy quality learning opportunities comparable to their urban counterparts.
Encouraging students to stay motivated, Datuk Gerawat reminded them that success is built on consistent effort. He urged those who have yet to receive recognition not to lose hope, stressing that every achievement begins with persistence.
He also called on parents to maintain close cooperation with the school, reinforcing the importance of holistic development for children. “This proves that excellence knows no boundaries. It is born from commitment, perseverance and hard work,” he said.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding students in both academic and co-curricular fields. A photography session with VIPs and recipients followed, capturing the celebratory atmosphere of the day.
The Excellence Awards continue to stand as a symbol of SMK Bario’s dedication to fostering talent and resilience among rural students, while reinforcing the state’s broader mission of inclusive education development.
