PAKAN – Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom, Assemblyman for Pakan, has urged longhouse communities to strengthen cooperation and unity to ensure the success of development projects in the constituency.
Speaking at the Land Survey and Road Repair Project in Nanga Nansang on Sunday, he emphasised that the progress of rural communities depends on their ability to work together, share ideas, and set common goals.
“The village community should be united and work together to ensure that every development project and programme can be successfully implemented. It is important to share ideas and set common goals to develop the economy and raise the standard of living of the people,” he said.
He explained that the government remains committed to ensuring development reaches all areas, with assistance distributed in stages to meet the needs of diverse communities.
He reminded residents not to be discouraged by challenges, stressing that perseverance and cooperation are vital for long-term success.
Tan Sri William Mawan also highlighted the role of women in rural development, urging the Women’s Association to be more active in carrying out responsibilities that strengthen social and economic well-being.
He noted that women’s participation is essential in driving community progress, particularly in villages where collective effort is crucial.
The assemblyman’s remarks reflect the broader vision of the Sarawak Government to prioritise rural development through infrastructure improvements, education, and community empowerment.
Programmes such as road repairs and land surveys are seen as catalysts for economic growth, enabling better connectivity and access to resources.
Community leaders and residents present at the event welcomed the call for unity, noting that cooperation among longhouse communities has historically been a cornerstone of rural resilience.
By working together, they believe development projects can be implemented more effectively, ensuring benefits reach all households.
Observers note that the emphasis on inclusivity, particularly the involvement of women and grassroots organisations, highlights the government’s strategy of holistic development.
The approach aims not only to improve infrastructure but also to strengthen social cohesion and economic sustainability in rural Sarawak.
