LIMBANG – The Jualan Agro Sarawakku Sayang (JASS) programme for Bukit Kota drew a strong public turnout at Pasar Tani Limbang today, underscoring Sarawak’s commitment to ensuring affordable and accessible fresh food supplies for the community.
The event was officiated by KR Sufian Mohat, Chairman of the Limbang District Council, representing Deputy Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development I, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.
KR Sufian highlighted that JASS continues to be well-received by local agropreneurs, broadening market opportunities and attracting visitors from Lawas, Brunei and Miri, particularly during the current fruit season.
He noted that the programme not only supports farmers but also strengthens Limbang’s position as a hub for fresh produce.
Organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) with support from the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD), JASS offers essential food items such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, eggs, fish and meat at prices 10 to 30 per cent lower than market rates.
Since its launch in August, JASS has been rolled out in Kuching, Serian, Bintulu, Kapit and Limbang, with plans to expand further into government complexes, retail centres, PPR zones and residential communities.
The initiative aims to increase agropreneurs’ income, strengthen direct farm-to-consumer supply chains, and maintain affordable access to essential goods for the rakyat.
Participants and visitors praised the programme for its affordability and variety, noting that it helps ease household expenses while supporting local producers.
The initiative has also been recognised as a model for balancing economic empowerment with community welfare.
Also present at the Limbang event were FAMA Sarawak Director Norsalawaty Abdul Kadir, Limbang Assistant District Officer Mariati Samat, District Council representative Mary Katok, and FAMA Deputy Director Adeyong Tomick, reflecting strong institutional support for the programme.
Observers note that JASS has become a vital platform for promoting food security and rural economic resilience, ensuring that Sarawak’s communities continue to benefit from accessible and affordable supplies.
